Starfish jewelry dish, ceramic dish with gold accents
Sea stars, known more commonly as starfish, are beautiful marine invertebrates found in nearly every climate and from shallow waters to great ocean depths. I always picture them in the shallow tidal seabeds in tropical blue waters. Starfish symbolize hope, new beginnings, and renewal - if a starfish loses one of its arms, it will eventually grow back. Starfish represent the power and resilience of nature, with the five arms symbolizing the five elements of the natural world: metal, water, fire, earth, and air.
The jewelry dish and the starfish are sculpted from stoneware clay and made entirely by hand. The piece is kiln-fired to 2200 degrees F for full maturity, and real 22kt gold accents are added to the rim and starfish in a separate firing. I love the combination of the orange and blue.
The dish measures 5 inches across.
