Large Peacock Lace Ceramic Jewelry Dish with Gold Accents
This intricate dish is made using the imprint of vintage handmade lace crochet (the beautiful pattern motif is the pineapple stitch, although it reminds me of peacock feathers). I rescued a box of vintage doilies that were being discarded - they are beautiful and the amount of work and love in each piece can be clearly felt. Lace crochet is a timeless and fascinating combination of history, art, beauty, tradition, and mathematics - they are lovely and they tell stories. In giving these pieces new life in my ceramics, I hope to celebration of the timeless beauty of this art form and show my admiration for those that created it.
The piece is handpainted with different colors of blue, turquoise, and purple, then glazed and fired in a kiln to over 2200 degrees F. This vitrifies the clay and creates the glossy glasslike surface. Real gold is added by hand and the piece is fired again to bond the gold.
The piece is completely handmade and organically shaped, approximately 6.5-7 inches across. Please allow for the beautiful natural variation in handmade kiln fired ceramic.
