Firefly (Lightning Bug) Jewelry Dish with Hydrangea Leaf and Gold Accents
Whether you grew up calling them fireflies or lightning bugs, these magical creatures remind us of childhood, warm summer nights when we saw them flickering in the night like little fairies.
The ceramic dish is imprinted with real hydrangea leaves, and the rim, firefly, and twilit sky are accented with real 22kt gold. This firefly ceramic dish is made from smooth porcelain-like stoneware clay, dried, bisque fired, glazed, and high-fired once more at approximately 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. The glaze is a glossy warm white with the beauty of a high fired ceramic, showing off the intricate detail of the hydrangea leaf. The firefly and twilight sky are all painted by hand, capturing beautiful night colors, the green of the intricate hydrangea leaf, and a spot on the leaf that appears to be lit by the firefly.
A real 22kt gold overglaze is applied and then fired a third time to bond the gold to the piece. It is a labor intensive process that is worth the extra step.
Measurements: Approximately 5 inches wide
These pieces are individually made by hand from start to finish, and slight variations and organic shapes are what makes them perfectly unique. Each one is a little bit different because they are each pressed from a real leaves and then sculpted by hand. Please note that the sky is sometimes lighter and sometimes darker - the colors in my latest batch are more like the first photo.
