Bumble Bee with Rosemary in Bloom, Ceramic Jewelry Dish
Bumble bees are the focused, productive, and patient presence among the plants and flowers. They are the sign of a thriving and harmonious garden. One little bumble bee is sculpted by hand, busy at work among beautiful impressions of rosemary springs on this high fired ceramic jewelry dish. When rosemary is in flower, it is covered with gorgeous purple flowers and is a bee magnet in the garden. In this dish, each flower and leaf are full of delicate, beautiful detail.
This ceramic dish is made from smooth porcelain-like stoneware clay, dried, bisque fired, glazed, and high-fired once more at approximately 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. The glaze is a glossy soft clear. The piece is imprinted with actual rosemary springs that are in full flower, and then hand-painted with shades of green and purple underglazes.
Real gold is applied to the rim of the ceramic dish in a special process designed for ceramics, and the piece is fired a third time to bond the gold. It's a labor intensive process with a beautiful result.
