Weeping Willow Jewelry Dish, Ceramic with Gold Accent
The weeping willow tree not only has one of the most distinctive shapes with its downward branches, it is also one of the most deeply symbolic and spiritual trees. The weeping willow represents emerging stronger after hardship, as the tree itself becomes stronger and more flexible as it weathers storms. The weeping willow was thought to protect one from lightning, now symbolizing protection and safety and comfort. The weeping willow also symbolizes immortality and great sorrow as well, an ode to loved ones who have passed.
This sparking weeping willow ceramic piece is made from smooth porcelain-like stoneware clay, dried, bisque fired, glazed, and kiln-fired once more at approximately 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. The weeping willow shape is imprinted from real thyme sprigs (not actually weeping willow which would be far too large on this scale), and carefully handpainted one leaf at a time to accent the intricate detail.
The glaze is a glossy soft clear, warm white on the underside. Real 22kt gold overglaze is applied to the rim in a special process as well as leaves covering the tree, and the dish is fired a third time to bond the gold to the piece. It's a labor intensive process that gives a special finishing touch.
This jewelry holder is handmade from start to finish, entirely by me in my California studio. Each piece is a labor of love that I hope will bring light and joy into your home.
