Green Sea turtle jewelry dish, ceramic dish with Caribbean blues and gold accents
The sea turtle is one of the oldest animals on earth and one of most popular spirit animals. The sea turtle symbolizes determination, endurance, and calmness. Their shells are a reminder of our own spiritual shields.
With this ceramic dish, I wanted to capture warm tropical water, filled with clear water and colorful shells, with the sea turtle drifting through it. The green sea turtle has a brown colored shell, and nesting sites include the miles and miles of Caribbean shoreline. The dish and the tiny turtle here are sculpted from stoneware clay entirely by hand. I cast each individual shell one by one from molds I make of real shells. The piece is kiln-fired to 2200 degrees F for full maturity, and gold accents are added to the rim and the turtle's shell in a separate firing, giving a deserved sacred representation of the turtle. I love the combination of the gold and blue.
