Frequently Asked Questions:
Is air dry clay the same as ceramics? No. Ceramics such as the dishes I sell are made of clay that is fired in a kiln to vitrify it, creating a hard durable lifelong piece that is waterproof and washable. It requires a pottery kiln, special materials, and a lot of experience. Air dry clay hardens by itself without a kiln and is wonderful for creating decorative and sculptural pieces, all without a kiln or special equipment. It can be painted with regular paints and can have a shiny finish too. Air dry clay is decorative use only and is not waterproof.
Can I rewatch the videos? Yes! You can rewatch the lessons as much as you'd like. You can stop and restart the videos, coming back to them at your convenience. I recommend watching the lessons once through, getting the materials, and then watching again as you create the piece along with me.
What are the materials? The materials you need are inexpensive and can be found easily in a local crafts store or online (The course has a list of suggestions available on Amazon). If you'd like to check the fundamental materials before purchasing the class, I use:
- DAS air dry modeling clay in white (other brands are ok),
- regular watercolor paints (I prefer the kind sold in tubes),
- DecoArt Triple Thick brush-on glaze (you can substitute ModPodge sealer),
- any kind of liquid gold leaf paint or gold acrylic paint
What language is the course taught in? This course is taught in English with English captions. You'll hear my voice speaking through all of the videos, as I show you how to do everything with my own hands. There is no background music to distract from the lesson.
Is there a kit of materials included? No kit or physical materials are included: this is a recorded online video course. You are not purchasing a finished piece - this is a video course ONLY. In the course I have suggestions of materials you can obtain easily online or in your local crafts store
Will I be able to follow the steps? Yes! I hope that this course will feel like I am sitting with you, showing the steps fully as though we are making the piece together. The demonstrations are thorough without skipping anything, and I talk through what I am doing and how I make the design choices. I'll show you variations as well, so you can explore your own creativity.
